My B-day Wish List

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

I know many of my friends are really busy with graduation for this month. So i thought it would be better that i come up with a wish list for my bday ( 30th Apr ) so it will be easier for you guys. Don’t have to head out to do shopping :)
And since Earth Day (22th Apr) is also coming soon, i guess it’s an excuse for us to help save the environment too and to give meaningful gifts not only to me, but to Nature and it would be so great to have all my friends contribute to the good cause together! I have researched for a few days for reputable organisations that i want to help. Hope that’s useful. If you have any organizations that you have in mind, you can suggest it to me. Or better yet, donate directly to the organisation. I don’t need the gifts. Just let me know if you have done that. I’ll appreciate that too.

My Wish List

For Me
1. book

2. book

3. Gift card or voucher from Borders or Kinokuniya.

For Nature
These are all reputable and established charity organisations.
But first, a message from Dalai Lama…..

1. Adopt a Cheetah Cub. Remember Jarrett? I would really appreciate it if you can help me adopt another one of it’s kind here at CCF - Cheetah Conservation Centre. I would love to adopt Orion :) for many obvious reasons :P Another alternative is to save a wild cheetah cub, cost 25 pounds. Go here

2. Plant a Tree. The more trees planted, the better! The cork oak forests of the Mediterranean are endangered and could be lost within 10 years because of the increasing popularity of the screw-top wine bottle. Now you know! read more here

3. WWF Adopt a Panda/Tiger/Orangutan/Dolphin Any one of these endangered animal will be great….

4. Sea Shephard. I’m sure most of you have seen the video footage of Seal Clubbing and the Taiji Dolphin Massacre. If you haven’t, please note that some of the footages are extremely graphic. If you have, i don’t have to explain further.

5. Whale Songs : Natural Recordings. I’m always moved to tears when i listen to whale singing… i love it.

6. Adopt an Orangutan. I would love to adopt little Kesi….

7. Give a Panda Room to Grow

8. Send a Child to Nature Club

Stay Calm!

Sunday, March 18th, 2007

Almost had a heart attack. As usual my morning routine is switch on my comp, brush teeth and stuff… then come back to my room and go online. But this morning, my comp is not starting no matter how many times i tried! Checked the power socket, plug and unplug, the monitor is on, but the cpu just wasn’t breathing or moving at all! no sound, nothing!

So i told myself… “Freak out about it later.” So i went on to have breakfast while watching Animal Planet, charge my flat-batt handphone so that i can call my friend for help later if the comp really died. Then come back to my room. Open up my CPU, touched a few internal organs and blood vessels here and there. Close it back and switch it on and Viola! It’s BREATHING again!!!! I think i have a healing touch!

Thankfully, i put freaking about it till later. Ese, i would have wasted alot of energy jumping and screaming and still not get it to work. Phew…. In times of danger or emergency, stay CALM. it will figure itself out sooner or later. Well, usually sooner :P if you stay calm that is.

Revelation

Friday, March 16th, 2007

I’ve had a revelation today…. As i was typing away on my keyboard while watching a pianist playing his keyboard on youtube, i thought:

“Hey! I can type on the keys of my keyboard as well as he can play the music keys of his piano! ”

So? We all can type well on our computer keyboard…. what’s the big big revelation?

The big revelation is… Practice makes perfect. Yes, typing on keyboard may be a skill that we often regard as “nothing”.
“It’s nothing… it’s just typing on the keyboard. i do that everyday…. day in… day out….in fact i’m doing it now as i’m writing this.” But it’s thing thats we do over and over again that makes as so good at it.

And then i thought…
“Hey! If I can type on the keys of my keyboard as well as he can play the music keys of his piano, then i can definately play the piano if i work towards that goal! ”

But of course, my interest wasn’t to master piano. It just means that, if i put my heart and soul to whatever i love and wants to achieve, i CAN DO IT. There’s no substitute for hard work. After 10 years, with some strokes of good luck and good timing, you might just become world-class. Who knows? You can make yourself into whatever you want to be…. you can even make yourself great. But great doesn’t comes easy.

Tiger Woods may be the youngest Masters champion at age 21, but he started playing golf at 3 years old and never stopped trying to improve.

Mozart began playing piano at 2 and would have accumalated tens of thousands of hours deliberate practice by the time he first played on stage.

It’s never too late to start.
The key word here is “deliberate practice”. Do it regularly, not sporadically. And never ever give up.

Tremors

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

Seems like most parts of Singapore felt the tremors from the earthquake in Sumatra today. I did too…. Was at home working on my computer when i suddenly felt woozy. Apparantly, my table and doors were swaying too.
It’s a very unfortunate situation for the many people living there. I can only hope that the damage and loss of lives be a minimal. At times like these, we should really be grateful that Singapore is pretty much “natural disaster-free”. Grateful but not taking it for granted.

By the way, I’m turning 23 this year. I did the calculation
Seriously, i can’t remember…
